The insurers Aegon, NN Group and ASR also went down and lost almost 5 percent. Payment company Adyen fell 3.2 percent. Other large European banks such as HSBC, UBS, BNP Paribas, Commerzbank, Santander and Deutsche Bank plummet to more than 7 percent.

✅ Interviewers were knowledgeable and kind enough to answer to all my questions.

@FedexSTi Adyen is such a fantastically run business, problem is, the market knows it & is priced accordingly. I think can still make attractive IRR on the stock here but that growth runway needs to stay intact for a number of years, otherwise itll be a tough rerate.

@wolffan Yes and no. They’ve now increased comp significantly and Stripe’s total compensation numbers are going down for those who joined the last few years, because Stripe’s stock value is going doen, while Adyen’s is flat (tho Adyen doesn’t pay much stock).

@JerryCap Market probably doesn't like the margins going down. I don't have a problem with it, probably nobody in Tech is so disciplined as Adyen is with expenses. Let them invest counter cyclically.

Zero-Data use cases like what VGS and Basis Theory provide come at the problem from a different angle (and spend account; security). I’d bet on that market instead.

Now that $MSFT, $AMZN, $META, $CRM, $TWLO and many, many other tech companies fire people, Adyen is hiring fast. They waited for this to happen.

@justbrosef 1. Adyen doesn’t do stock compensation because they are a Dutch company and Dutch regulation disallows any bank (which Adyen is categorised as) to issue more than 20% per year in variable pay.
2. The have 60% profit rate (EBIDTA) which is above eg Google or Meta, around Visa…

@Tsartoshi Same with my tesla, Apple, adyen and even 23 years ago, Antonov. If I would’ve held it for 10 years it would’ve been 10x. Problem with stock is: they don’t last forever. There is a point in time where they might suffer or even break. No stock lasts for many generations.
