@longshortgamma Because of my earlier work in China, I have an account for the amazing WeChat - albeit (sadly) a somewhat watered down version because I don’t have a verifiable China mainland address. But my Chinese colleagues used WeChat like Facebook, Twitter and Apple Pay combined 😆

The problem with ‘doing WeChat outside China’ has always been that you’re trying to create a complete new ecosystem, with one company in control. WeChat was in the right place at the right time, but doing it again now, outside the Chinese market context, is a whole other problem/

@longshortgamma I dont think that's a technology question. Facebook had enough money to make any technology, copy any wechat funktionality if they wanted to long ago.

@PatrickFIanagan Yeah, China has a different market dynamic. A simple way to describe it is the power of the app store marketplace controlled by Google or Apple here, has been shifted to WeChat. It is much easier for them to regulate & replicates China's top down control digitally.
